Record number of BNZ Start-Up Alley entries

BNZ Start-Up Alley is one of the highlights of Webstock, the globally significant celebration of the web and gathering of its makers. This year will be no different with a record number of entries into the competition and yet another six fantastic finalists gearing up to pitch their idea to a panel of expert judges on February 16 at the St James Theatre in Wellington.

BNZ’s Head of Small Business, Harry Ferreira is particularly pleased with the  number of entries and calibre of this year’s finalists. “We wanted to find and celebrate New Zealanders that take the step to bring their idea to life and provide them with a once in a lifetime opportunity to further their business. We’ve got six great start-ups that have taken that step.”

The six finalists are developing businesses, products, services and ideas across a range of categories including artificial intelligence, volunteering, archiving, payments and sport.

Congratulations to CLVR, Collaborate, Curtis, Datatag, Genoapay and MY F.C. on being our 2017 Start-Up Alley finalists. Find out more about them and their idea here.

They will all pitch these ideas to our judging panel for the chance to win one of two prizes which include cash, a trip for 2 to the Kiwi Landing Pad in San Francisco and legal advice from Buddle Findlay’s Early Stage and High Growth Company advisors.

By making it to the finals, they’ve already won, picking up $1,000 in cash, a business “health check” with us, a free legal consultation as well as tickets to Webstock ’17.

We want as many people as we can fit into the St James to come along and support our finalists at Start-Up Alley this year. It’s free to attend, you don’t need to be a Webstock attendee to come and you’re guaranteed to feel inspired by what you hear and see.  We hope to see you there and good luck to all our finalists. To calm those nerves we recommend preparing by reading these tips from past judges and some power posing.
