Christchurch is a community that’s proven it’s full of strong, resourceful and collaborative people so we’re excited to announce that we’ve opened a free co-working space for small to medium enterprises in Christchurch’s CBD called community101.
Building something new
After the Canterbury earthquakes BNZ made a commitment to Christchurch and promised to return to the CBD as soon as we could. In 2014 the bank started the development of a new store and Partners Centre in the Cashel Street development. The Partners Centre opened in December 2016 and this week we’ll open our new store, complete with an opportunity to meet Christchurch’s favourite team, the BNZ Crusaders.
Christchurch is home to a great number of businesses from different sectors. Businesses that were, and still are, affected by the earthquakes, with many facing staff shortages, a fall in demand, lack of infrastructure or destroyed premises. Many businesses no longer had a bricks and mortar premise after the quakes but decided to stay and try and build something new. Today, construction of a new, vibrant CBD advances the city is filled with building sites and buzzing with workers. We are proud to be a part of that.
Committed to growth
At BNZ we’ve put a lot of thought into how we can further support Christchurch. We wanted to offer small business owners in Christchurch and beyond a place where they can come and work and meet other entrepreneurs; supporting each other in growing their business.
Community101 is our answer to this. The space is adjunct to the BNZ store and Partners Centre in Cashel St and offers hot-desking that can be booked in advance or on the spot, as well as three bookable meeting rooms. The workspace is available for any business, whether they’re a BNZ customer or not. The space has wifi, printing and free coffee – all you need to do is bring your laptop.
To provide businesses with all the support they need while using community101 our community manager Tamara Fischer will be available throughout the day.
Helping businesses thrive
BNZ hopes community101 will be a unique, innovative and collaborative environment for small to medium enterprise businesses. Our goal is to help foster a culture of collaboration where the sharing of knowledge and ideas ultimately helps businesses thrive. It will also provide opportunities for New Zealand business owners who aren’t based in Christchurch but want to do business there with space to work and expand their network.
